Why Celebrate Darwin?

We all appreciate science and the advancement of knowledge. Unfortunately, many institutions, religious and secular, have announced plans for a year long celebration in honor of the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwins 1859 publication of the Origin of the Species by means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of the Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life This is rather curious considering that the neo-Darwinian theory has been losing ground as a viable scientific theory for a generation or more. So, just what are we to celebrate?

  • Should we celebrate plagiarism? – that Darwin copied most of the ideas in his book from others? That many of his colleagues had to cajole him into giving recognition to others, but not until the 3rd and 6th editions of his book? That a Creationist, William Blyth, also set forth the ideas of natural selection or variation in 3 articles in 1835-7 (Creationists, before and after 1859, have never had a problem with natural selection, per se). There also was Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), while in the Malay Archipelago, independently developed an almost identical theory of evolution and sent Darwin a copy of his manuscript on natural selection in 1858! Also, almost all of Charles Darwin’s ideas with his examples were already set forth by his anti-Christian grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, in the book Zoonomia (1794).

  • Should we celebrate that Darwin’s theory was immediately adopted by Karl Marx to help his political ideas, as well as providing the scientific cover for a long list of horrible despots and their terrible atrocities? It is well documented that evolution became the scientific cover for Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao TseTung, and several more dictators. The direct connection between evolutionism and Hitler’s ‘final solution’ is especially pertinent, (see addendum below) and documented in books, plus the Ben Stein movie, Expelled- No Intelligence Allowed.

  • Speaking of Expelled, should we celebrate academic intolerance and bias against anyone who questions the dogma of evolution? No matter their scientific credentials? Should we celebrate that free speech and the expression of alternate theories is regularly being trampled upon by academic institutions across this country, including Iowa State University? (IS academic censorship being protected by evolutionists? You really should see the movie Expelled!)

  • Should we celebrate a 19th century theory that has been looking for real scientific evidence for 150 years, and still has none? Modern research into DNA and heredity has repudiated the idea of evolution, no matter how many millions of years you make up to act as a smoke screen. The fact is, there is better evidence now, that you can not ever go from a frog to a prince. Many evolutionists have admitted they have no mechanism to advance from one species or phyla to another: This includes S.J.Gould who wrote in Scientific American, (Oct 1994) “Natural selection is therefore a principle of local adaptation, not of general advance or progress.”

  • Maybe we could celebrate the fossil record? Which Darwin himself admitted could not back up his theory and a billion catalogued fossils later, still does not. More evolutionists should study the implications of the fossil record, and consider this statement by the late Dr. Colin Patterson: senior paleontologist at the British Museum, speaking to an open meeting at the American Museum of Natural History in New York in 1981 Then I woke up and realized that all my life I had been duped into taking evolutionism as revealed truth in some way. Considering the lack of scientific evidence, it does take a lot of blind faith to believe in Darwin’s theory. Or a lot of being “duped” as Patterson put it.

If we want to celebrate a great scientist from the 19th century perhaps it should be Louis Pasteur (1822 -1895). Even evolutionists have heard of him, but then he was opposed to the ideas of Darwin. Pasteur was a devout Catholic, a great Christian and a truly great scientist. Most of us drink milk every day in his honor, and it was Pasteur’s work that scientifically ruled out the concept of spontaneous generation of life. This should have put an end to the idea of evolution as an origin of species theory a hundred years ago. His work led to major advances in the treatment of diseases, founded modern medicine & the science of micro-biology and has arguably helped more people and saved more lives across the globe than any other scientist.

Meanwhile, Darwin’s ideas, have not led to scientific breakthroughs, but instead have contributed to despair, death and mayhem in an age when we should have known better. Despite the high amount of hype, and revisionism, lets realize that there is nothing to celebrate in Charles Darwin, and there is nothing eloquent about his theory.

Louis Pasteur

Instead lets celebrate Pasteur, who as a scientist saw wisdom and design, not randomness and chaos. Lets celebrate someone who gave hope to those with diseases, and did not encourage racism, but instead said: “The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator.” – Louis Pasteur.

Louis Pasteur

And “Science brings men nearer to God”.

AddendumHitler and evolution: The Jewish Anti-defamation League was very wrong to denounce Stein’s movie. Whoever wrote their press release did so out of liberal political reasons not based on facts of history. The Expelled movie is very significant, and you should see it, if for no other reason than to be able to understand it for yourself. It includes a tour and statements by a curator of a concentration camp. If you do not want to believe Ben Stein, and the camp curator, how about Stephen Jay Gould of Harvard? In the November 1987 issue of Natural History, pp 22-24, Gould published an article where he introduces Benjamin Kidd, “an English commentator highly respected by both academic and lay circles.” According to Gould, Kidd said that in Germany, “Darwin’s doctrine became a justification of war” and “Darwin’s theories came to be openly set out in political and military textbooks as the full justification for war and highly organized schemes of national policy in which the doctrine of force became the doctrine of Right”.

Hitler tried to ram survival-of-the-fittest down the world’s throat. An Entomologist named Vernon Kellogg, also mentioned by Gould, summarized the Nazi position: “That human group which is in the most advanced evolutionary state …should win in the struggle for existence”. And everyone knows Hitler was referring to the Aryan race. Handicapped people, Jews, and anyone who resisted Nazism- were sent to concentration camps.

Richard Weikart is a professor of modern European history at California State University. His book From Darwin to Hitler, 2004, Palgrave Macmillan; has received high praise from international history professors and shows how pre-war Germans like Ernst Haeckel and Ludwig Buechner, supported a moral relativism, but also exalted evolutionary fitness as the highest arbiter of morality. Weikart’s book shows how Darwinism played a key role not only in the rise of eugenics, but also infanticide, abortion, and racial extermination, all ultimately embraced by the Nazis. He makes a convincing argument that Hitler built his view of ethics on Darwinian principles rather than nihilistic ones. From Darwin to Hitler does illustrate the impact that Darwinism had on the course of events in the 20th century. You can get it on Amazon.

Note that I am not saying all evolutionists and atheists are killers or lunatics. Not at all, but without a God or Biblical authority doesn’t it make sense that the you can do what you feel like attitude without restraint eventually leads to abhorrent things? That is what Charles Darwin said he was afraid of, – its also what Jeffrey Dahmer said. “If a person doesn’t think there is a God to be accountable to, then-then whats-whats the point
of-of trying to modify your behavior to keep it within acceptable ranges? That’s how I thought anyway. I always believed the theory of evolution as truth, that we all just came from the slime. When we-when we died, you know, that was it, there is nothing.” – Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, interviewed by Stone Phillips on Dateline NBC, 11/29/94

The point is that Darwinists ARE celebrating 150 years of his book and his theory And the history of Darwinism includes Hitler as well as Lenin, and Stalin and other despots of the 20th century. The documentation is easy enough to find. Darwinism captured the scientific and political world over a 100 years ago. It ushered in the bloodiest century by far ever in human history. Ideas do matter, as well as their major and serious implications. If you want to celebrate the history Darwinism, then despair, death and mass executions are part of that history. And in far bigger numbers than the persecutions and inquisitions launched by all supposed Christians in previous centuries combined.

There is nothing innocent or elegant about Darwinism. People ignorant of world history and cowardly atheists only try to pretend otherwise. Shortly after the war, Sir Arthur Keith, a British anthropologist, and evolutionist, wrote a book “Evolution and Ethics” and drew this chilling conclusion: “The German Fuhrer, as I have consistently maintained, is an evolutionist; he has consciously sought to make the practice of Germany conform to the theory of evolution.” For those that are interested in learning more on this topic, pick up Weikart’s newer book, mentioned above. And see this website: http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/cm/v27/n2/darwin

Hitler was raised a catholic, and atheists try to paint him as a Christian of some sort, but that’s only because he needed the support of the people in his rise to power. In “Mein Kampf” he himself says his public statements should be understood as propaganda that bear no relation to the truth, but are designed to sway the masses. Hitlers Table Talk a collection of his private opinions assembled by a close aide during the war years, shows Hitler as rabidly anti-religious. He called Christianity one of the scourges of history. He condemned Christianity for its opposition to evolution. Hitlers leading advisers Goebbels, Himmler, Heydrich, and Bormann- were atheists who hated religion and sought to eradicate its influence in Germany. My own Grandfather was persecuted and beaten by Nazis because he publicly opposed new Nazi laws against church attendance and preachers who said anything against Hitler. The Nazis closed religious schools, censored religious newspapers, and more. Historian Weikart documents, both Hitler and Himmler as admirers of Darwin and often spoke of their role as enacting a law of Nature that would eliminate the unfit.

Hitler really believed he was going to ram his version of survival-of-the-fittest down the world’s throat. And who was it that struggled the most and longest against Hitler? Devout Christians. Hopefully you know about the Lutheran pastor Helmut Theolicke. But also Dr. Ferenc Kiss, a creationist scientist affiliated with the Plymouth Brethren and a professor at the University of Budapest (Hungary) Medical School, who risked his life and freedom to protect Jews from Nazis.

And there was Pastor Niemoller who organized the ‘pfarrernotbund’, (Pastor’s Emergency League) with over 7,000 members and rendered service to dissidents until Christmas 1944, despite heavy losses to imprisonment and Hitler’s concentration camps.

And what did Albert Einstein, the great physicist who fled Nazi Germany say about this? He is quoted in Arthur Cochrane’s “The Church’s Confession under Hitler” (1962),

– “Being a lover of freedom, when the (Nazi) revolution came, I looked to the universities to defend it, knowing they had always boasted of their devotion to the cause of truth; but no, the universities were immediately silenced. Then I looked to the great editors of the newspapers, whose flaming editorials in days gone by had proclaimed their love of freedom; but they, like the universities, were silenced in a few short weeks… Only the Church stood squarely across the path of Hitler’s campaign for suppressing truth. I never had an special interest in the Church before, but now I feel a great affection and admiration for it because the Church alone has had the courage and persistence to stand for intellectual and moral freedom. I am forced to confess that what I once despised, I now praise unreservedly.”

– ALSO, I strongly recommend EVERYONE to buy the new book: Whats So Great About Christianity, by Dinesh DSouza. (2008, Tyndale House Publishers).

Chapter 19: A License to Kill: Atheism and the Mass Murders of History is worth the price of the book alone. Using historical facts it decisively counters the silly and uninformed statements by atheists that religion is chiefly responsible for wars and mass murders. Darwinism may not be the root cause, but it does remove the constraints within a society. The root cause, that too many in our society have forgotten is: SIN. Putting self first and foremost. Mans rebellion against our Creator. But there IS HOPE! And a real solution for the scourge sin. We suggest you find a good biblically based church, there are plenty in the Quad Cities, and ask the questions that are on your own heart. There are answers. There is forgiveness of sin, and by inviting Christ into your heart, you can be re-united with your Creator. See Romans 5:6-11. (GO look it up!)

One Comment on “Why Celebrate Darwin?”

  1. An excellent summary! I’m thrilled to hear that you guys are sticking to your guns on this issue.

During the so-called Year of Darwin [2009], CreationLetter.com was urging churches to participate in our Summer of Creation initiative to blunt the edge of Darwin’s impact that year. basically, we were encouraging churches to plan Creation vacations, visit local Creation museums, hold Creation-based VBS and church camps… to do whatever they can to promote Biblical Creation, especially our youth, who receive a Pollyanna one-sided indoctrination into evolution as fact in schools the rest of the year. Due to its success, we’re planning a second Summer of Creation this year.

I visited your Vacation Ideas page [http://qccsa.org/vacation-ideas/] and it seems we are agreed in this area! Keep up the good work!
